    Main functions

    We are seeking for an Innovation Associate (IA) to lead a study of the technical and industrialization feasibility of paper-based quantitative integrated immunosensors .
    The IA would be, ideally, a specialist in Lateral Flow immunoasays (LF) and paper-based microfluidics. The IA will work in close cooperation with our team of experts in electrochemical detection, electrode screen printing, food safety regulation, food industry market and on-site monitoring systems.
    IA responsibilities:
    Reporting to the Strategic Innovation Manager, and working together with our R&D team, the IA will perform the following tasks:
    - State of the art review and technology surveillance of LF and paper-based microfluidics.
    - Creating new designs of paper-based immunosensors suitable for mass-manufacturing.
    - Conducting technology validation experiments
    - Analys and interpretation of results and scientific data
    - Writing immunoassay protocols and technical reports
    - Teaching and training leading to the generation of new skills in other team members.



    Requisites

    We are looking for someone:
    - With PhD in biology, chemistry, biochemistry or electrochemistry
    - Experience in paper-based microfluidics and in LF development
    - Interested in the multidisciplinary working environment of a young and innovative biotech SME in the food safety industry.
    - Experience in management and writing proposal for different European R&D public funding programmes will be appreciated.

    Los candidatos deben tener experiencia en desarrollo HW & FW de dispositivos electrónicos, con conocimientos preferentemente en el campo de los requisitos específicos de los dispositivos médicos. La experiencia previa en el sector industrial, y más específicamente en el sector de la tecnología médica, será altamente valorada. Asimismo, los candidatos deberán demostrar también conocimiento en las normas y estándares de aplicación.

    El desarrollador se incorporará al departamento de Neurorehabilitación y trabajará y/o liderará proyectos de desarrollo de electrónica HW.     Theme: The research project will be focused on the emerging area of computational materials design for energy storage applications.

    Description: This project provides a unique opportunity to become skilled in theoretical materials modelling. You will be conducting exciting research into the functioning, design and control of battery materials at the molecular scale. The work will focus on using first-principles and semi-empirical approaches to address complex ion dynamics as well as developing novel strategies to analyse and mine existing large-scale materials data repositories. You will receive training in advanced molecular modelling techniques, including density functional theory and molecular dynamics, with particular interest in how to efficiently integrate such techniques into automated high-throughput frameworks for effective materials discovery. The work will be done in close collaboration with several theoretical and experimental groups worldwide. You will be working towards key societal goals such as the penetration of renewable energy sources in the electric grid, the electrification of transportation, and delivering value for energy consumers.



    Requisites

    Theme:The research project will be focused on the advanced combined structural and thermodynamic characterization of battery materials by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and solid state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (ssNMR).

    Description:
    The rational development of new materials for advanced energy storage applications relies in the detailed description and understanding of the key structural and dynamic parameters that direct their electrochemical performance. Indeed, the redox reactions involved in batteries typically require the reversible intercalation/extraction of alkali ions (e.g. Li+, Na+, etc.) into/from the structure of electrode materials. Therefore, advances in material characterization techniques are crucial in the development of new technologies for energy storage applications.
    Structural methods based in diffraction techniques like XRD are basic for the macroscopic description of solid materials and reveal critical aspects of the long range atomic disposition. Solid state NMR on the other hand provides very valuable information of the local environment of magnetic active atoms and their mobility.
    The goal of the present research project is to explore the global description that result from the combination of both techniques and to develop new methods and experimental parameters that will help to explain and even predict the performance of the materials under investigation.
    The XRD and solid state NMR platforms at CIC energiGUNE are at the top at the international level and are equipped with the most advanced and sophisticated methods available to date. In situ/operando experiments are foreseen as well as the complementary use of synchrotron or neutron radiation.

    BCAM is a young research center that is facing its consolidation phase. In this sense, the scientific strategy of the center is based on three Scientific Platforms that have been set up in order to establish an interdisciplinary system capable of facing the challenges of Mathematical Science in a broad manner by bringing together Mathematics, Engineering and Sciences:
    * Core in Applied Mathematics: PDE, Numerical Analysis, Fourier Analysis, Algebraic Geometry, Probability and Statistics.

    Nuclear fusion is considered the energy of the future due to its almost unlimited resources, its inherent safety and the absence of greenhouse gases. One of the most important technological challenges for the implementation of this form of energy is the development of materials able to withstand the extreme conditions to which they will be exposed.
    The objective of this project is the development of oxidation resistant, self-passivating tungsten alloys with suitable thermal and mechanical properties for their application in future fusion reactors.
    The activity lies within the framework of a European project and will be performed in close collaboration with other European research centers. The work to be done by Ceit’s team is the manufacturing by powder metallurgy of tungsten alloys of different composition and their characterization. The material developed and optimized at Ceit will be sent to the collaboration institutions for subsequent test relevant for the application. The work envisages the optimization of the material developed so far, with special emphasis on its oxidation and thermo-shock resistance. The candidate will be familiarized with different powder metallurgical manufacturing techniques as well as with the most advanced materials characterization techniques.
    The candidate will perform a PhD thesis in the frame of this Project.

    Main functions

    The safe passage of trains through tunnels and the integrity of the related infrastructure depend to a great extent on appropriate maintenance and having in place the measures that are needed to inspect various elements, including the rails. In order to detect and identify defects on the running surface of rails and the sub-surface, electromagnetic non-destructive (END) testing techniques have advantages over other inspection techniques.

    The position is part of a national research project being carried out in conjunction with several technology and industrial partners from the railway and infrastructure sectors. The sub-project that Ceit-IK4 is working on involves inspecting rails for cracks via magnetic non-destructive testing techniques.

    The candidate will be responsible for manufacturing a prototype for measuring, capturing and processing the data from the magnetic testing, working closely with other members of the multidisciplinary research team. The measuring system to be designed for the project will be embedded in an unmanned automatic inspection vehicle that has on-board data capturing and data processing systems.

    The candidate will acquire the following competencies: team work, programming, and electronic design.

    Dado que el agua es un recurso escaso, entre otras cuestiones debido al crecimiento de la población y a los efectos por el cambio climático, debe ser gestionada de una manera eficiente, cuyo objetivo principal es que el máximo volumen de agua que entra en la red llegue a sus puntos de consumo, minimizando las pérdidas en la mayor medida posible. 

    La tesis doctoral se centrará en el desarrollo de algoritmos novedosos de análisis de datos y machine learning para la predicción de consumo y detección de fugas, que faciliten la operación y la gestión de los sistemas de abastecimiento de agua.
